If all those features and upgrades haven't convinced you that PS3 Madden 10 is a masterpiece, then perhaps a trip through the sports video game timeline will. Sure, it's questionable to praise today's games simply by damning yesterday's. After viewing the earliest football video games, however, you'll understand why PS3 Madden 10 is such an achievement. At the dawn of video game consoles, one of the top requests from every hardcore gamer was a football video game for their system, naturally. The football players look like blocky little robots. Let's get that out of the way. You can tell by the image that the game wasn't much, but that's only the half of it. Put too many characters on screen at once with these older games, and every character started flashing and flickering. There's just no way to try an explain how lousy the sound was. No scrolling screen, either. Within a couple years, things would pick up slightly, with a competing console developing a football video game. It was yards better than that first one - people looked a bit more like people, the players no longer flickered, and gamers got their scrolling screen. But it was still nothing too impressive. The video game world was certainly jazzed when that was released, but it wasn't exactly the gold standard. That wouldn't come until several years down the line. This one was a big innovation for football video games, and has fans who still swear by it. This one held the top spot for football video game fans forever. Makes sense that it was so revered by the hardcore gamer - it really was the first true attempt to recreate the NFL. Everything - sound, visuals - got such a major upgrade that this was the final word in sports video games. And given that they're making a new online version, there's still a following for it. Yet, it's still a poor man's PS3 Madden 10. Take a look at it, after taking in all of those older games.

 

We've come a long way, and you, along with football video games, have been the largest beneficiary. No need to keep bagging on the old stuff. We've made our point. No shocker - EA Sports has scored another touchdown with PS3 Madden 10. No doubt, PS3 Madden 10 is the real sport of champions, and don't let some douchebag tell you otherwise. Not to disparage the other PlayStation sports video games - they're all pretty excellent in their own right, but PS3 Madden rules the playing field. In the video game world, PS3 football games begin and end with Madden. And it's where they separate the men from the boys, by letting you duke it out for some serious cash. PlayStation Madden 10 maniacs have the opportunity to challenge each other for some serious cash. Once you do your homework and study the playbook, you'll be in the end zone scoring points and making your rivals weep as you empty out their bank accounts.
